North Carolina has two of the nation’s top restaurants for vegan food, according to a new report.

Ethiopian restaurant Enat in Charlotte U pure soul in Durham are among the top 100 places for plant-based dining in the United States and Canada, according to Yelp results released Monday, April 4.

To create the list, the restaurant reviews website said it researched restaurants serve vegan food “Then those spots were ranked based on a number of factors, including overall volume and review ratings.”

Of the two North Carolina restaurants to make the top 100, Enat Ethiopian Restaurant ranked highest at number 36. The restaurant is located in Shannon Park Charlotte area — focuses on East Africa Dishes with a twistreported The Charlotte Observer.

“We strive to raise the status and awareness of Ethiopian cuisine by fusing modern creativity with authentic, delicious taste,” the restaurant said on its website. “The only thing better than our food is our impeccable service, through which we demonstrate warmth, professionalism and integrity.”

Customers seem to agree, helping it earn 5 stars out of 5 on Yelp. Some took to the site to rave about it the restaurant is vegan Combination that may include a vegetarian dish called gomen and injera flatbread, an Ethiopian staple.

Enat is no stranger to earning widespread recognition.

In February 2021, Yelp called it one of the top restaurants in the United States, McClatchy News reported. Months later, the restaurant said that it was planning to open a shop in Optimist Hall, a conglomeration of food vendors in Charlotte.

On the latest Yelp list, Pure Soul in Durham fell just a few steps down the rankings and was ranked 41st. The restaurant said it puts on a plant-based spin Comfort food classics – including Southern Fried Chicken.

“Our goal is to create a vegan fast food experience that offers friendliness and cleanliness in the creation of hearty soul food,” the company said on its website. “We hope that people will take that sense of community and belonging with them and support them with food on their travels.”

The restaurant – located on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard in Durham – also has a 5 out of 5 star rating on Yelp. Several site users said they are fans of the restaurant’s signature “soul rolls,” vegan egg rolls stuffed with the restaurant’s grilled meats, mac and cheese, collards and collards.

“If you haven’t tried these lovely little buns, we have Roll them fresh daily,” Pure Soul wrote in a Facebook post on March 15.

Overall, The Mediterranean Chickpea in Tampa, Florida was the top restaurant on the Yelp list. Rounding out the top 5 were restaurants in California and Arizona.
