A Dorset-based energy company is offering free advice to help those struggling to pay their bills this winter.

The EU has warned that energy costs will rise as more than a dozen energy companies have collapsed due to global gas shortages.

This summer, regulator OFGEM said the cap would go up, meaning energy bills will go up too.

Ridgewater, a Dorset energy company, has a number of programs to help households that are affected.

LEAP is a – (Local Energy Advice Partnership) free home visit program that helps residents across Dorset with free energy advice, energy saving appliances, and access to other improvements such as heating upgrades and insulation.

The eligibility criteria are extensive. If you are receiving a benefit, have poor health or are at risk, you will most likely be eligible for this scheme.

It is also the first rating Ridgewater recommends as it recommends candidates for other funding programs that they might benefit from.

Health Homes Dorset is the second.

The program is funded by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, Dorset Council and Public Health Dorset and operated by Ridgewater Energy.

Everyone is free for energy advice. This also includes whether insulation can be installed or replacement heating.

It also provides practical advice on setting up your heating controls efficiently, changing your energy tariff, and reducing condensation, moisture and mold.

If someone in your household meets the following criteria, Healthy Homes Dorset will install insulation and, in some cases, new heating systems for free:

  • Has a cardiovascular, respiratory or mental illness.
  • Has a disability.
  • Is 65 years of age or older.
  • One child under the age of 5 lives at the property.
  • Is pregnant.
  • Lives with addiction.
  • Was in the hospital because of a fall.
  • Is a new immigrant or asylum seeker?
  • Has a low income.

In many cases, and if necessary, they can do work (free of charge) to prepare your home for insulation, e.g. B. repair cracked walls or plaster or cut a larger skylight.

Please visit the Ridgewater Energy website for more information on the programs.
