“Transformational” investment by LG Energy Solution to support thousands of technology jobs
PHOENIX — Governor Doug Ducey announced today that Queen Creek, Arizona will house LG Energy Solution’s new state-of-the-art battery manufacturing facility.
The $1.4 billion investment by the global battery manufacturer will create thousands of new jobs and produce a cylindrical battery essential for electric vehicles. The LG facility is the first of its kind in North America.
“LG Energy Solution’s historic investment is a generational investment that will support thousands of high-paying jobs in Pinal County and across the state,” Gov. Ducey said. “World-leading technology leaders like LG choose Arizona because of our world-class business environment, progressive workforce, unbeatable quality of life and culture of innovation – a culture that offers unparalleled opportunities for current and future generations. Thank you to CEO Youngsoo Kwon and the entire LG Energy Solution team, as well as Sandra Watson and all partners on this project including Pinal County, Queen Creek, SRP, Mesa Gas and Central Arizona College. This announcement proves once again that Arizona means technology and we are just getting started.”
Construction will begin this summer and production will begin in 2024.

Last month CEO of LG Energy Solution Youngsoo Kwon reiterated the positive impact of this facility.

The facility will feature a state-of-the-art smart factory system that includes remote support, manufacturing intelligence, logistics automation and more. The unique technology combined with the company’s expertise in battery mass production enables LG Energy Solution to stably meet consumer demand and ensure the company’s leadership in the North American battery market.

Cylindrical batteries offer compact, high-density energy storage that is ideal for applications such as electric vehicles. The state-of-the-art Arizona facility aims to establish LG Energy Solution‘s presence in the North American cylindrical battery market while providing opportunities for further expansion.

High-tech manufacturing, including semiconductors, electric vehicles and batteries, is thriving in Arizona and has helped create thousands of new jobs through direct manufacturing and supply chain operations in recent years.
The state has recently attracted multi-billion dollar investments from global technology leaders like Intel and TSMC, while electric vehicle makers like Lucid, Nikola and ElectraMeccanica manufacture in the state.
