In a post shared on her Magnolia website, Gaines talked about the regularly changing pages of her house during the holiday season.

“With the holidays in full swing, I wanted to share some of my favorite side dishes that highlight the flavors we all know and love about this time of year,” she began.

“For our hearty sides, I make a creamy serving of Mac and Cheese and a homemade version of the classic Green Bean Casserole. On the sweeter side, I make my Southern Sweet Potato Casserole that could pass for dessert, ”Gaines wrote.

Gaines came up with a topping that mixed corn flakes with pecans and marshmallows to finish off this delicious dish.

The ingredients for this delicious casserole include 5 pounds of sweet potatoes, a cup of sugar, heavy cream, a piece of unsalted butter, milk, eggs, vanilla, and salt.

The topping contains 1 cup of corn flakes, chopped pecans, light brown sugar, unsalted butter, and mini marshmallows.

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Poke holes in each sweet potato with a fork, place them on a foil-lined tray, and toast them until tender. This should take over an hour.

Reduce the oven temperature to 375 degrees. Grease a 9 by 13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.

Peel the boiled potatoes. Put them in a large bowl and break them into pieces. Add the sugar, cream, butter, milk, eggs, vanilla and salt.

Using a hand mixer, beat the potato mixture until well blended.

Pour the mixture into the baking dish.

In a separate bowl, mix the topping, combine the corn flakes, pecans, brown sugar, and melted butter. Scatter the mixture over the mashed sweet potatoes and bake until golden brown. This should take 20 minutes.

Remove pan from oven – place mini marshmallows on top of the casserole.

Turn on the grill and place the pan under the heating element, making sure that the candy browns evenly. Take out of the oven and serve.

Turn the oven over to grill and position an oven rack 4 to 5 inches from the grill element.

Scatter the marshmallows over the casserole and grill until the marshmallows start turning brown and bubbly, about 1 minute watch. Serve hot.
