The ribbon cutting ceremony includes the unveiling of Wilmington’s largest mural by local artist Miranda Villanueva and the launch of the Kindness Rocks Project
LOS ANGELES, October 1, 2021 / PRNewswire / – LA Care Health Plan and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan are hosting a long-awaited opening ceremony today to inaugurate their Community Resource Center in Wilmingtonwhich was opened to the public in early July. The new website is the latest addition to the jointly operated Community Resource Centers Health Plans, which aims to keep members and the community active, healthy, and informed.
At 13,000 square feet, the Wilmington Community Resource Center is located at 911 N. Avalon Blvd. the largest in the network. This location is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers select services, including connection to social services, free WiFi for private telemedicine consultations, doctor registration assistance – and customer care for LA Care and Blue Shield Promise members. A wide range of personal fitness and health education courses will resume once they are identified as safe by public health officials overseeing the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the newest services in the Community Resource Center in Wilmington includes a weekly pantry where everyone is welcome to collect free groceries. This pantry is open on Mondays 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The cutting of the ribbon shows the grand reveal of a community-inspired mural painted by a South Bay mural painter on the outside of the Community Resource Center Miranda Villanueva. The 135 square meters of this mural are the largest work of art in Wilmington. Villanueva, whose mission is to connect the community through murals, actively teaches young women to realize their full potential as artists through a program called Posas – short for. – exhaust it Mariposaswhich means butterflies in Spanish.
In addition, the Community Resource Center is launching its own Kindness Rocks Project, which is part of an international initiative aimed at cultivating connections within communities and uplifting individuals through simple acts of kindness. The Community Resource Center worked with the youth of the Boys and Girls Club of. together Wilmington, Wilmington Teen Center and Dual Immersion Foundation to paint inspirational words or pictures on rocks that will be placed in a garden outside the facility where anyone can pick up or leave a rock.
