Pediatric patients and their families attended Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital’s 10th birthday celebration Wednesday night.

Celebrations at the area’s only children’s hospital included canvas painting activities courtesy of Lehigh Valley Art Spark. The birthday party guests also decorated lab coats that will eventually be displayed at the hospital.

At the conclusion of the celebration, patients, families, carers and staff enjoyed individually wrapped cupcakes and sang “Happy Birthday!”

Building on more than 40 years of pediatric care, Children’s Hospital was established in May 2012 and recently expanded with a new 24-seat pediatric emergency department and an expanded pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

“It is an exciting time of growth and development for our program as we celebrate the tenth anniversary of our accreditation as a children’s hospital,” said Anne Baum, president of Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital. “We look forward to celebrating more milestones in the future.”

Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital provides care in more than 30 specialties and general pediatrics and is home to the area’s only pediatric surgery and cancer centers. The Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) operates the only Level 1 trauma center with pediatric qualifications in the region.

“Our caregivers and colleagues at Children’s Hospital are passionate about bringing children in our community high-quality, specialized care close to home,” said J. Nathan Hagstrom, MD, chief medical officer, Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital. “Providing specialized pediatric care includes dedicated spaces and resources just for children to make them feel welcome and comfortable.”

Children’s Hospital officially turned ten years old on Sunday May 22nd. Local high school students from the Lehigh Valley Volunteer Center helped celebrate the occasion by decorating the sidewalk in front of Children’s Hospital with chalk art.

On May 25, local Dunkin’ locations donated $1 to area children’s hospitals, including Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital, for every iced coffee sold on Dunkin’ Iced Coffee Day.

Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital has partnered with the Lehigh Valley Zoo to continue the 10th birthday celebrations. Every Saturday from now until September 3rd, the first 100 children (ages 2-11) at the zoo will receive a voucher for a free Dippin’ Dots.

Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital is also the presenting sponsor of the Junior Experience Tent at the US Senior Open at Saucon Valley Country Club June 21-26. The Junior Experience Tent is free for children and young teens competing in the US Senior Open. The tent includes golf activities, crafts, snacks and drinks, and other fun entertainment.
