New emergency room for children in Santa Maria

The Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria unveiled its new pediatric emergency room on Friday, July 16.

The department brings 2,000 square meters of space to the medical center. The extension includes seven beds, including three triage rooms, a new entrance, a nurses station and a new lobby, all of which are dedicated to pediatrics.

Hospital staff told KSBY that they have a busy emergency room and that providing space and privacy for pediatric patients is an important part of patient care. A pediatric emergency room helps nurses and doctors provide the best care available.

“We are so grateful to the community for the support that made this expansion possible,” said Dr. David Ketelar, a member of the medical center’s emergency medic.

The addition of seven beds for children only brings the total number of beds in the emergency room to 42.

The new division marked the completion of the Marian Foundation’s $ 2.5 million emergency services expansion project. Rancho Guadalupe, a family business in the Santa Maria Valley, donated $ 500,000 to the fund.

Rancho Guadalupe co-owners and management unveiled the department’s new main entrance during the event on Friday.

The Marian Regional Medical Center is located at 1400 East Church St., Santa Maria. It is one of three hospitals that make up Dignity Health Central Coast.
