More and more vegan bakeries are opening up across the country and we couldn’t be happier about it. Chicago is the newest city to join the trend with Sweet Vegan Bakes, an all-vegan bakery and fast food restaurant that opened in Old Town last month.
Sweet Vegan Bakes is a community-oriented vegan restaurant
Sweet Vegan Bakes, a community-based vegan restaurant, was founded by Cheryl Nelson, who began her vegan journey nearly 20 years ago after being turned down for life insurance because of her health and lifestyle habits. She went vegan, started baking and has never looked back!
Nelson has big plans for the new bakery, including delivering cooking classes to the community over the next year and adding items like chicken and waffles to the hearty portion of the menu. Sweet Vegan Bakes currently serves vegan cupcakes, cookies, cakes, milkshakes, as well as hot and cold sandwiches and wraps. They offer several gluten-free options, including their signature strawberry shortcake cupcakes. The store is located at 409 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60610 and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. A portion of all sales from the shop are donated to local community organizations such as animal shelters, food banks and women’s organizations.
