The seminar is open to everyone.
Kelsey describes the research:
“Velvet mites of the genus Podothrombium Berlese, 1910, are found worldwide with only two described known species from North America, both of which occur on the west coast. The present study describes five new species that occur in the east, both as larvae and, according to larvelar, species hypotheses supported by morphology and analysis of mitochondrial (barcode region of COI) and nuclear genes (D2-3 expansion regions of 28S rDNA) Samples are taken from the Barcode of Life Data Systems (BOLD) so our dataset could span most of North America we are increasing the number of podothrombi in North America from two species to seven. The world’s first comprehensive taxonomic key to larval and postlarval podothrombi and the first eastern North American taxonomic key are included. “
