The menu also offers sandwiches, salads ($15-18) and the Pure Grit BBQ Kitchen Sink Cookie ($4.50) packed with barbecue potato chips, chocolate chips and pretzels that are sure to be an instant sweet and salty classic. The full Pure Grit BBQ menu is listed here.

“Pure Grit BBQ’s concept is simple, BBQ for everyone. Our mission is to create a cozy dining experience that brings everyone to the table, regardless of their dietary philosophy,” said Kerry Fitzmaurice, Founder of Pure Grit BBQ. “We are all on our own food journey, and Pure Grit BBQ allows everyone to enjoy grilling; because for us, grilling is more than food, it is a community.”

The Pure Grit BBQ concept was born after a trip to austin where Fitzmaurice experienced Texas infamous barbecue scene, but noted that there were no vegan options and realized that plant-based cooking needed to be part of the conversation. When returning to NYCFitzmaurice confided to his colleague and current business partner Jenny Mauric of their desire to bring plant-based grilling NYC, and Pure Grit BBQ was born. The duo worked with a vegan chef Nikki King Bennett most recently on the Netflix series Bad Vegan in perfecting the sides and nationally renowned pitmaster Daniel Jacobellis of Top Gun BBQ to ensure the authenticity of the grill in every dish. They’ve also teamed up with the finalist from Hell’s Kitchen and a plant-based chef Emily Hersh 2021 to direct the kitchen and perfect the menu.

In addition to prioritizing the dining and restaurant experience, the team also places an emphasis on sustainability, reducing waste as much as possible through optimized recipes, composting, compostable packaging, recycling and more. Pure Grit BBQ has even partnered with sustainable fashion brand Canava for uniforms and merchandise.

Pure Grit BBQ is open 11:00 – 21:00 Tuesday – Saturday and Sundays 11 a.m. – 8 p.mwith prices off $5 for pages and up to $30 for loaded plates. The shop window front offers 18 seats inside and two picnic benches outside. The restaurant features a cookshack smoker that prepares its delicious menu items. This location offers pickup and initial delivery, as well as catering for large and small gatherings. Third-party delivery will be introduced later this summer.
