Senior center names activities in March

DELPHOS – We are delighted to welcome Wil Baughn as a part-time van driver. He has completed all his training and is ready to help with transportation.

The exercise program keeps getting stronger. On Mondays, the group is led by Cathy Heitmeyer. Wednesdays are cardio drumming days and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are practice sessions on various videos. We have a variety of balls, bean bags, etc. to vary your workout. You can join us Monday through Friday at 10am to exercise and socialize!

Falls can happen to anyone at any age – but as we get older, falls become a big problem. Broken bones and head injuries are just a few things that can happen, and it can happen in a split second. When you feel yourself falling, you know what to do… and when you fall and you are alone… what should you do? Join the March 16 Good to Know program and learn about some simple steps you can take to protect yourself from falls and stay healthy. Call 419-692-1331 by Friday, March 11 to register.

The spring course “Matter of Balance” will take place from April 5th on Tuesdays and Thursdays in April from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. This course teaches fall prevention strategies. Call the center by March 21 to register. The number of participants per course is limited to 12 people.

If you haven’t already applied for this heating season, this is the time of year to consider HEAP. You can apply for this energy credit once during the heating season (August to May) if you have qualifying income. If you are over 60 and would like help applying, call 419-692-1331 to schedule an appointment. You must bring proof of income and social security numbers for everyone in the household, recent heating and electric bills, and your birth certificate.

Applications for the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program through AAA3 will be available online starting March 15. Eligibility requirements include: 60 years of age or older, meeting established income requirements, residency in Allen, Auglaize, Hancock, Hardin, Mercer, Putnam, or Van Wert County. This program encourages the consumption of locally sourced produce among older adults. Individuals will receive $50 worth of growing season vouchers. Vouchers can be redeemed at participating farmers’ markets or street stalls (look for the SFMNP poster). If possible, please apply directly online at aaa3.org, or applications can be printed and submitted to AAA3 by mail, email, fax, or in person.

Community Health Professionals offers toenail trimmings on the second Tuesday of each month. They will be here at the center on March 8th from 1 p.m. They charge $20 for this service. Remember that there is no membership for Delphos seniors – anyone 60 years and older is welcome to use the center and our services.
