Sinless Sweets, a gluten-free and vegan bakery, will open its new storefront Thursday. The store, located at 5009 S. Western Avenue in Sioux Falls, will also feature a bistro menu, as well as indoor and patio seating.

Owner Maggy Pickner took a while to figure out what she wanted to do in life, she said, but she eventually found it through her love of baking. The company began when she and her sister began developing recipes after health issues forced them to change their lifestyle and diet.

Pickner then launched her business from her apartment in October 2021, selling custom cakes and other baked goods, all of which are gluten-free and vegan.

“I really wanted to connect with others who are struggling with the same issues we are,” Pickner said. “People will be able to have food that they haven’t eaten in a very long time and that’s really exciting.”

Maggy Pickner, owner of Sinless Sweets, ran her made-to-order bakery business from her apartment, but now she's opening a shop in Sioux Falls this August.

Pickner will be selling baked goods like cakes, cookies, and other special treats in-store each week, and breakfast items include overnight oats, toaster biscuits, and cinnamon buns.

There will also be ready lunches featuring sandwiches, salads and pasta salads, and Sinless Sweets will be serving hot meals for dinner starting at 3 or 4 p.m. with a new meal each day. The evening menu includes dishes such as stuffed mussels, lasagna and alfredo.

“Basically, it’s stuff you don’t want to do yourself,” Pickner said. “And I’ve found that it’s better to work with what people want than just what I want.”

One thing that Pickner gets a lot of requests for is freshly baked bread, which will also be available every day.

Maggy Pickner, owner of Sinless Sweets, has hosted several pop-up shops this summer selling her gluten-free and vegan baked goods.

The store will have Wi-Fi and a Keurig for people to use while they “chill out” there or get work done, Pickner said.

She plans to buy the noodles she will use in bulk and then sell them so customers can make their own dishes using quality noodles, and eventually she will hold baking classes at the store every month, she said.

Opening a storefront has been in the works for some time, Pickner said. She now sells baked goods and pasta in pop-up stores throughout the summer.

“It took a lot longer than expected, but we got where we wanted to be,” she said. “I’m happy to finally be open. And my family has been my biggest support that has helped me get through everything.”

This gluten-free and vegan pasta from Sinless Sweets contains tahini and sun-dried tomato sauce.

For now, only she and her family will be working at the store, but Pickner will try to hire more help over the holidays.

The first 20 people at Thursday’s grand opening will receive a free goodie bag featuring items from Chelsea’s boutique and A smart cookie; Both companies are owned by Pickner’s sisters.

Sinless Sweets is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
