The Farms at Bailey Station opens in Collierville: what to expect


Much like stepping into a hotel or resort, The Farms at Bailey Station clubhouse exudes a sense of senior citizen luxury, with a self-playing piano playing in the lobby, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, and staff members greeting every passer-by.

Natural light, medical access and more than a dozen amenities adorn the completed community for over-55s in Collierville at 3300 South Houston Levee Road.

The nearly $300 million retirement community is celebrating the completion of the homes, clubhouse and health center after two years of construction.

“We’re very excited,” said Michelle Vincent, executive vice president of Retirement Companies of America, developer and manager of The Farms at Bailey Station.

“Now that all of this is built, the fun now begins with creating, maintaining and nurturing that culture of family and genuine love for the people that are here.”

The 37 hectare facility will be officially opened on June 20th to welcome current and future members, staff and city leaders of the project. The farms will host another celebration on June 22 for the Jordan River Health Campus — an on-site health center for farm residents and non-residents.

“The Farms at Bailey Station is a significant investment in our community of over $170 million on 37 acres of land,” said Collierville Mayor Stan Joyner. “We are impressed with the architecture and design of the campus, but also with the amenities and quality of life the farms bring to our retirement community.”

Although construction of the senior center began in 2020 with some bumps in the road due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project is ready to accommodate the rest of its residents.

Vincent said 120 of the 176 apartments and 47 of the 63 houses are currently reserved. She expects construction of all the houses to be completed by the end of 2023, while apartment residents will be able to move in this year, but some began living on-site in December 2021.

Currently 78 “members”, as Vincent calls the residents, live in the apartments and 27 families in the homes.

Vincent expects about 500 residents will live on the campus — including apartments and houses — by the time the entire community completes construction.

She hopes that all apartments will be occupied by the end of 2023.

Six houses are currently under construction and eight more are scheduled to begin construction later this year.

“The Farms at Bailey Station is not only a landmark project for Collierville, but one of the most impressive communities of its kind in the United States,” said Vincent. “The primary goal is to improve the lives of members living here, their families who are coming, being available for whatever life throws at them, having an easy and convenient solution to whatever problems life throws at them.

By June 27, The Farms will begin relocating residents to the Jordan River Health Campus care area, which also includes assisted living, memory care, inpatient and outpatient rehab, and respite care.

As you enter through the front doors of the health campus, step onto the lobby’s clear glass floor with a design replica of the Jordan River – a Middle Eastern river.

The second floor hallways can be seen from above in the lobby, along with a center wall decorated with a large wooden cross. On Tuesday, workers in gowns walked around the two-story building, preparing various rooms, the dining area and the blue-walled chapel.

Each nursing room has a window for natural light, a flat-screen TV, soft or firm mattresses, a bathroom, and closets.

Patients for assisted and memory care can begin moving on July 1.

She said the health campus is open to the public, but Farms members have priority.

“You must have decided that if you are independent, if you are physically able, you want to live in an apartment or a garden shed,” Vincent said. “At the health campus, you could be at home and have a health problem, having never lived in an apartment or garden shed, and you could access the services at the health campus.”

The three-story clubhouse and apartment building includes a variety of resident amenities, including five restaurants, a movie theater, 24-hour gym, barber, hair and nail salon, arts and crafts rooms, small clinic, and a performance arts center , a chapel and a central park with a dog park, event lawn, stage and bocce court.

Residents and prospective members mingled in the clubhouse on Tuesday, some enjoying the company of friends and family at The Daily Bread Bistro, one of the restaurants, with the soups and salads the cafe has to offer.

A resident sat in the saloon chair on the second floor of the clubhouse for a pedicure and some relaxation time. Other members walked the hallways, greeting other residents as they passed.

“It’s an upscale life-care retirement community for adults who move here from all over the country,” Vincent said. “The design of this community and the attention to detail of the amenities we offer, the lifestyle we offer is totally contemporary with today’s senior living standards.”

She said the project’s completion and future success would not have been possible without the combined effort of local and national companies, including Linkous Construction and Greystone Communities.

Members residing at Farms at Bailey Station pay an admission fee starting at $275,000. You also pay a monthly maintenance fee that depends on the size of the apartment or house and the number of people, as well as an individual plan and fee schedule.

Admission prices for the Jordan River Health Campus start at about $6,675 per month and increase based on the level of care required, Vincent said.

“We strive for an open, friendly and inclusive atmosphere here,” she said. “They are here because they want to be here. You are not alone, we have you. You are part of our family.”
