Vegan ice cream shop Luv Fats opens window shop in Austin

Farmers market stand for vegan ice cream in Austin dear fats open a walk-in window over Memorial Day weekend in the Highland neighborhood. The store at 7135 North Lamar Boulevard opened on May 27th.

Luv Fats vegan ice creams are made with avocados and coconut milk, with flavors ranging from buttery pecan to lavender blackberry jam to soy sauce, Colombian chocolate and Kenyan coffee. The window serves scoops as well as pints.

Owner and founder Chi Ndika opened the window shop in her new production kitchen. “We needed more space to expand if we wanted to get into bigger grocery stores,” she tells Eater, “and that’s cheaper than moving to another commercial kitchen. We kind of got lucky and the spot seemed to fit perfectly.” The company moved into the new premises of what was previously the fruit cup store Fruity Mania two weeks ago and added the window counter.

Ndika had been experimenting with vegan ice cream for her mother and her mother started Luv Fats at various Austin Farmers’ Markets in 2018. It is currently displayed at the Texas Farmers Market in Mueller on Sundays; Pints are also available at Bee Grocery, Dia’s Market, Royal Blue Grocery on Rainey Street, Counter Culture and Barret’s Coffee. Pre-ordered pints are also available on-line.
